We all know that itís important for kids to eat fruits and vegetables, but getting them to actually do it can be a bit of a challenge.

How Often Should Kids Be Eating Fruits & Vegetables?
Usually we encourage half of their plates to include vegetables. Kids should get three to five servings of fruits and vegetables everyday. Adults donít realize how tiny childrenís stomachs are. Remember that a serving should be about the size of the childís fist.

Itís a good idea to encourage your child to eat a wide variety of fruits and veggies. The more variety you include, the better. This way, if your child doesnít want to eat a particular vegetable, heíll eat another one.

Juice?
Drinking juice is not as nutritious as eating fruits and vegetables. You donít get the necessary fiber you need when you drink juice. When you are drinking juice, you are consuming calories without feeling full. Children are better off eating fruit. When they eat fruit, they get the sensation that theyíve eaten something.

Include Your Kids
Encourage your children to help you prepare the food as you are making their meals. Children become more interested in eating fruits and veggies if they are involved in the process of buying or shopping for them.

Parents as Role Models
Itís vital that parents also eat fruits and vegetables. Children look up to adults for everything, including what they eat, so adults should model healthy eating habits.

Itís never too early to introduce fruits and vegetables to your children. Itís often a better idea to introduce vegetables first, though.
